10 Printer Problems Almost Everyone Faces & How to Solve Them

10 Printer Problems Almost Everyone Faces & How to Solve Them

The printers trouble us only in the moments when we need them the most. Connecting with the printers, installing drivers, and setting up a printer are still the top issues people face. However, the problem does not present itself in the same form every time. Here are the ten issues that people complain about the most about their printers and their solutions.

1."My printer does not print."

Let's do a quick check. The first thing you should do is check the condition of the cable that connects to the power supply. If it's not a cable problem, check that the power button isn't stuck.

If the equipment is correctly turned on, it is time to see if any lights have come on or if an error message appears. Check that you have paper and ink; verify that the USB cable is connected correctly to the computer or the printer connected through a Wi-Fi network.

Try using a USB cable if you use a Wi-Fi network, as this can cause connection problems. Unplug and re-plug the cable that connects the printer to any other device or adapter, and if nothing works, check that you are not connected to a VPN connection.

This first test should most probably solve your printing problems. If it persists, continue reading.

2. Error message in the printer

A deep regret from the user accompanies every printer error message. Any flickering light gets on our nerves if it is not the well-known 'low ink'.

Unfortunately, there are many more types of alerts, and many of them we can solve ourselves. We have the solution in the equipment manual. All the answers can be found there 'frequent problems' or 'error indicators'.

If you don't have this paper guide, you can always visit the manufacturer's official website and download it in PDF. With some latest generation models, you have to follow the instructions on the screen to solve the error.

3. The paper is jammed

Without a doubt, one of the most frequent problems. Causes can range from incorrectly loaded paper in the tray; the paper is wrinkled, damp, or inappropriate; the printer is not on a level surface or has dirty rollers.

The first thing you should do if this happens is not to pull the paper we can tear it and leave some inside or damage any of the internal components of the equipment. With this clear, remove all the paper from the support, open the cover and look inside your printer. The answer may be at a glance.

Help yourself with a flashlight and, with tweezers, try to remove the remains of jammed paper, if any carefully. Check for more covers on the back of the computer, if there are, open it and make sure there is no paper left.

To avoid this in the future, check that the papers are not curled or folded, put only the necessary paper in the tray.

The paper accumulates moisture. This causes the printer to take more than one at a time, causing the consequent jam. You can also work with thinner paper. Finally, clean the rollers regularly.

4. Print lock

On some occasions, you may find yourself in the situation of a blocked print queue (items waiting to be printed). Usually, this is due to the lack of paper or ink, which has an easy solution, but it can also be due to failure to cancel a print. Usually, this action is effective, but it can also cause the equipment to stop functioning properly.

We must go to the print list, where you will be able to access all the documents you have in the queue; once there, select the task you want to cancel. With the cancellation of one or more, you will end the traffic jam.

5. My device does not recognize the printer

If you have faithfully followed the instructions in point 1, this situation will arise very rarely. If you still run into it, check that the printer is set as the default, which is compatible with your computer's OS.

It can also occur when an Extended Capable Port (ECP) sends data to a printer faster than it can handle. You can easily resolve this situation from the System Control Panel to load the standard printer port driver instead of the ECP driver.

6. "My printer indicates that ink is missing, but I know it is not"

Sometimes our equipment can tell us that there is a lack of ink, even though we have recently changed the toner or ink cartridge. So, you need to know how to bypass the "printer low on ink" message and force it to print.

Most of the time it is due to a dirty or clogged print head. By following the instructions that you will find in the manual, you will solve it with all solvency.

It could also be that your printer does not recognize that you put new cartridges. In this case, from your equipment settings, you will have to reset the ink levels. Check your model's guide to see how to do it. Remove the cartridge, turn off the printer, wait a few minutes, turn it on again, and put the cartridges back.

7.   Printing errors

Below we address the most common examples of printing errors our clients encounter, with their corresponding causes and solutions.

Paper with spots or stripes: The main cause is usually the toner or print cartridge. Remove the toner cartridge and place it on a cloth or paper to check that it is optimal and without leaks. If it has any defect, you must complain to the supplier.

Other reasons can be found on the paper, other than the right one; that we have not adequately adjusted the printing quality, that our drum has to be replaced; the fuser roller or film is damaged or our equipment simply needs cleaning.

In case you observe a misalignment of lines and or colours in the prints, enter the control panel of your computer, and from printer properties, located in the maintenance section the option 'head alignment' or 'cleaning Head 'and follow the instructions.

Unevenly Spaced Areas: If your laser printer returns you pages with unprinted areas, there is probably a scratch or defect on the photo-receiving drum or a toner buildup on the casting roller. Here we have no choice but to change the toner cartridge that contains the photoreceptor drum and the melter cleaning pad. Failure to do so may require replacing the drum assembly or melter cleaning pad separately.

Gray print or grey background: This often happens when a laser printer's photo-receiving drum wears out, begins to hold less charge, and less toner adheres to the drum, resulting in a print that is grey rather than black. This will not be a major problem if our equipment includes the drum as part of the toner cartridge, since in these cases the drum is frequently changed. If we change the drum, remember to return the print density control to its original position, or you will again find the same error.

Solid vertical black line:  if it appears in your prints, it is a clean sign that the toner cartridge of your laser printer could be almost empty. You can buy some time by shaking it, but it will be your turn to change it sooner rather than later.

Blurred photos:  Poor paper quality or damp paper, toner running out, or print density set to low or economy mode all respond to this problem. We must increase the print density and or print with good quality photographic paper and without wrapping.

Variable print density:  If some areas of the page appear darker than others when using a laser printer, the problem is likely due to the distribution of the toner on the photoreceptor. The source is an uneven distribution of the toner when its container runs out. You should remove the toner cartridge and shake it from side to side to redistribute the toner and make it flow evenly. If you can temporarily solve the problem, do not rule out, looking ahead, that your printer has a light leak that causes an area of ??the photoreceptor drum to be exposed to more ambient light than other parts. The solution, in this case, is to move your equipment away from a bright light source.

Dirty or damaged corotrons: If the transfer corotron (which loads the paper) has toner residue or paper fragments on it, it may apply an uneven charge, resulting in fuzzy or fuzzy white lines running vertically over the impressions. Replacing the cartridge can remedy some of these problems. We can also clean the corotron ourselves. For this, do not forget to use a lint-free material.

8. The printer returns a blank page to me after printing

It is possible that the content sent to print contained a blank sheet. Please check and try again. It may be a simple error with the amount of consumables.

9. The printer software does not work properly

If the software is causing problems for you, you will need to reinstall it. First, uninstall it from the control panel, restart the computer, visit the printer manufacturer's website, and install the latest version of the software. In many cases, despite having uninstalled the software, you can continue to print with the default (but essential) printing options available in whatever application you use.

10. It won't let me print from a mobile device

An increasingly frequent problem. We can find it even with computers that are not Wi-Fi enabled. You can likely print from your mobile device if both the device and the printer are configured correctly.

You can print to a printer other than Wi-Fi, but for this, your network must have a wireless access point, and you must use one of the programs that require the installation of a utility on a networked computer. Printopia for MACs, or Presto, which works for both MACs and Windows, are two of the most effective.

If you still cannot find the solution to the problem that your printer presents, do not hesitate to contact us. At Printer Helpers, we have the best technical service for your printing device.
